Dakota Moon Kennels

Puppy Application

Background

I've loved dogs all my life. When I was in fifth grade, we got a Boxer. Maggie as a sweet
brindle. When it was time to add a dog to the family I suggested a Boxer but it was
rejected. I had seen a photo of a beautiful black dog with brown spots on its face.
The search was on it find it. I found the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog on a breed site and
began researching it. After visiting many informational sites, we decided that this was
the breed for us. We located a local club (Lake Shore Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club)
and went to a weight pull to "meet the swissys". We were in love. After talking with the
club president and finding a breeder, we were new puppy owners! We welcomed
Bluegrass Dakota Moon into our home on March 24, 2003. Even though Kodi was show
quality, we wanted a pet for our first dog.

I got involved in the club and began participating in working dog events. After a year,
we decided to add another pup to the household. As the saying goes, "Swissys are like
potato chips, you can't have just one." So, in July 2003, we welcomed Blossom Hills Sturdy
Aspen
. Aspen was our first show dog.

Tragically, at two years and four months of age, Kodi was assisted to the Rainbow Bridge
after a six month battle with epilepsy. Aspen was lost. I knew we had to get another pup.
I found him in Michigan and brought Toasters Black Pearl home in July of 2004. Jack
was also a show dog. I showed Jack to his championship in just over six months, a week
past his first birthday.

I welcomed our first little girl, Oakvue's Christmas Carol of Brushcreek, into my home.
Sophie was a show prospect but decided she wanted to stay "little." She tried the show ring
but thought it was more fun to bounce than to stand still. She's my sweet "Sophie-licious" and
is working on earning several working titles.

As if having lost one dog to epilepsy, Jack also was stricken by this dreadful disease. He was
nearly three years old when diagnosed and just shy of his 4th birthday when we had to let him go.

My kennel is named in honor of Kodi.
